Drip irrigation
India is an agricultural country, and hence a lot of water is required for farming. Water should be used in a proper way. We propose a microcontroller based system for automatic drip irrigation. We make use of the various sensors like soil moisture sensor, water flow meter to keep a check on the amount of water used. By this project we can control the moisture content of the soil in the cultivating field. The water flow will be monitored and based on the data available, analysis and prediction will be done. This will help the user to use water wisely in future.
Drip irrigation is a type of micro-irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either from above the soil surface or buried below the surface. The goal is to place water directly into the root zone and minimize evaporation. Drip irrigation systems distribute water through a network of valves, pipes, tubing, and emitters. Depending on how well designed, installed, maintained, and operated it is, a drip irrigation system can be more efficient than other types of irrigation systems, such as surface irrigation or sprinkler irrigation.
Automatic Drip Irrigation System
Conventional irrigation method wastes a lot of water, leading to a high cost of electricity to run the pump set for irrigation. SELKON Drip Automation can help save water, electricity as well as human efforts. This can be achieved with the help of a single soil-moisture sensor and microcontroller. Here we present an automatic drip irrigation system that senses the moisture level of the soil and automatically switches the pump on when the power is 'on.'
A wireless sensor network (WSN) to automatically irrigate the crops using soil moisture content values obtained from the soil moisture sensor is designed. Solar powered microcontroller based automated irrigation system is used. Minimization of human intervention in farm land irrigation can be done by using this automated technology. The use of moisture sensor and water level sensor all together sends the signals to microcontroller which further sends the various statuses as read by the sensors. Moisture level values read by the sensor are updated to server database through Wi-Fi module.
